Tony Schilmiller
Dr. Tony Schilmiller joined the MSU Mass Spectrometry and Metabolomics Core in September 2015 as the assistant director and in 2024 was promoted to associate director. In this role he is involved in consulting with Core clients, training students and post-docs to operate facility instruments, and overseeing day-to-day operations in the Core. Prior to joining the Core, Tony was a post-doctoral researcher, then research assistant professor, in the lab of Dr. Robert Last in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Dept at MSU. During his time in the Last lab, Tony used a variety of mass spectrometry approaches to study specialized metabolism in trichomes of plants in the Solanaceae family, primarily in tomato. Tony also completed his graduate studies at MSU working in the lab of Dr. Gregg Howe. Although his research experience was primarily focused on plants, in the Core he has gained experience in targeted and untargeted metabolomics in a wide range of matrices across a wide range of metabolite space. He also has experience with intact protein and polymer mass spectrometry.
